Qualifying Criteria

The Scholarship Panel (the Panel) have committed to providing a JD$100,000 scholarship to a student starting grade 8 commencing at the beginning of the school year and repeated for the following five years, or until that student leaves school, whichever is the sooner.

Applicants are required to apply through this website. Applications received via other means will not be considered. The Panel will consider and judge each application on its own merits. Each applicant must meet the qualifying criteria and must ensure this is the case before submitting their application.

In identifying the qualifying criteria, the Panel determined that each Scholarship applicant must exhibit the following characteristics to be considered for selection. They must:

  • Produce and maintain satisfactory record of academic performance.
  • Maintain a satisfactory attendance record.
  • Participate in at least one extra-curricular activity (through clubs or societies).
  • Be a student whose parents/guardians are financially challenged to meet the expense of secondary education.

The applicant will be further required to submit an essay using the online form outlining why they should be awarded the scholarship.

The Process

To be considered, applications must be submitted after the end of the school summer term and in any event no later than October 31st in the year of the application.

The Interview will take account of the applicant’s ability to communicate, articulation, use of English, sense of purpose, and confidence.

For example, an applicant due to commence Grade 8 in September 2026 must submit their application no later than October 31, 2026.

Qualifying Criteria Explained

To assist the applicant, the Panel further defined other aspects of the qualifying criteria as follows:

  1. A satisfactory record of academic performance means maintaining an average of 65% which, for the purpose of evaluating continued qualification, the recipient’s school report would be used.
  2. A satisfactory attendance record is defined as a minimum of 75% attendance (excluding ‘authorized absences’).
  3. Authorized absences would be defined by the school but could include absences due to unforeseen circumstances (illnesses, etc.).
  4.  Extra-curricular activity is defined as anything done, whether community service or within the school (including debate team, army cadets, track & field, etc.) which can be measured and evidenced. However, a greater weight will be given to activities done within the school.
  5. The Bursar along with the Guidance Counsellor will define ‘financially challenged’.
