Peter Franklin Massias

We created the Peter Massias Foundation in honour of our classmate and friend Peter, who studied with us at Camperdown High School in Kingston, Jamaica, until his passing due to complications from sickle-cell anaemia in 1976.

Peter enjoyed life! We played daily, especially Cowboy and Thief. He also loved playing marbles, riding his yellow bicycle and playing Monopoly with friends. Peter loved to win and, when he won, he would giggle. He had a laugh that was just infectious.

Peter’s strength and determination to fight his illness (sickle-cell anaemia) were admirable. He loved learning and never wanted to miss a day in school. He would beg to go to school even when he was going through a health crisis. Peter was always happy and kind, loved people and saw no flaws in anyone at his young age.

Peter was a big brother to many of us, and he played that ‘big brother’ role affectionately and with love.

To the donors

I would like to use this opportunity to thank you for your generous donations in support of the Scholarship in honor of Peter. I believe, if he were here today, he would wholeheartedly support and help with this venture. The money received from your donations will enable the Peter Massias Foundation to empower less fortunate students at Camperdown High School.
